2022 - 5G Creative Explorer
This project aims to test the creative potential of 5G's infrastructure in Coventry, UK, by engaging Arts & Cultural organisations in a research and development programme. 5G: live streaming, audience interaction, content production, extended reality (XR), virtual design and performance. I am a Curator / Creative Coach for the initial phase of this project, being delivered by Coventry University.
The 5G Creative Explorer brings together Arts & Cultural organisations interested in the use of 5G technology in relation to their creative practice, supported by leaders in CreaTech and academics specialising in digital and immersive technology. Contributing to the legacy of Coventry’s UK City of Culture, testing the capability of immersive technologies that can operate on a 5G network. Eight core cultural organisations (Herbert Museum and Art Gallery, Motionhouse, The Belgrade Theatre, Imagineer, Shoot Festival, Talking Birds, MotorFest and Open Theatre) will receive a bursary to work on campus in a 5G boot camp, to test applications relevant to their practice with me who will be working with the participants to create a digital showcase of the prototypes and the learning journey of the organisations.
The core cultural organisations are committed to public engagement with arts activities, 5G Creative Explorer is an investment in the creative use of this technology and it is expected that products created will become integral to the future audience engagement activities of the organisations. Coventry City Centre was a pilot for 5G infrastructure and has a high level of capability in network scale, accessibility and slicing to facilitate large amounts of simultaneous, dynamic data consumption.
